S-Video is separate video, also called Y/C, is an analog video signal that carries video data as two separate signals: luma(luminance) and chroma(color).
It will separate the output of luminance and chroma to avoid the mutual interference for the mixed video signal output. S-Video is actually a five-pin interface, composed by two-way luminance signal, two-way video chroma signal and one-way public shielding ground.
Compared with the AV interface, as it is no longer to put up Y / C mixed transmission, it has no need for luminance and chroma separation and decoding, so the clarity of the image are greatly improved.
